Founded in 1969 as a grassroots movement led by faith-based organizations and community leaders in response to growing concerns about poverty and hunger in their City. ALIVE! is a volunteer-governed 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency and basic needs support to people in Alexandria. Its recent work to prevent and assist people facing eviction in the City of Alexandria is one of six programs currently run by ALIVE! and has helped people stay housed and recover funds to support their housing. ALIVE! House is the oldest transitional shelter of its kind serving women and their families.
Food Program Coordinator
The Food Program Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations concerning management of main ALIVE! warehouse and executes activities for the ALIVE! food program. This includes, data entry, administrative support, purchasing, receiving donations and orders, coordination and communication to organize distribution events, managing food drives and scheduling with other team members, and managing day-to-day volunteers in warehouse, keeping work areas and inventory in warehouse clean, accessible and coordinated. This position reports to the Program Operations Director and works closely with the Program Manager.
The Food Program Coordinator:
• Manages Warehouse Volunteers including the sorting and organizing pallets and preparing food for delivery for distribution events.
• Works with other staff and volunteers to ensure safe and efficient loading/unloading trucks, packing pallets.
• Ensures sufficient variety of food is available in warehouse to meet basic nutritional standards and provide a variety of foods to clients.
• Coordinates with the Program Manager Distribution events and their components, including volunteer management, truck rental, ordering and communication with volunteers and site leads.
• Conducts orientation for volunteers on-site and in advance of events, keeps training documents and lists of vendors, sites and schedules updated and communicated to other team members.
• Checks volunteers are signed in and working safely in and maintains safe clean workspaces.
• Works collaboratively to ensure food is available for all programs and volunteers.
• Makes purchases and works with program manage to ensure timely data collection and helps with reports as directed.
• Maintains warehouse equipment and ensures equipment is in good and safe operating condition.
• Ensures trash is removed daily and all open areas are free of debris and are clean and safe.
• Manages warehouse staffing and volunteers.
• Coordinates packing for grocery programs.
• Donation receiving, recording, and sorting.

Warehouse/Admin

Schedule: Monday- Friday, with some evenings and weekends. It is expected that at least one weekend will be working, with the option of teleworking one day a week, or floating one day off if weekends are worked.
Status:
Full-time, exempt.
Compensation:
$50,000-$55,000 per year depending on qualifications.

Food Operations Coordinator
The Food Operations Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations, tracking inventory, communicating purchasing and inventory needs, and ensuring food is prepared for delivery. This includes but is not limited to managing relationships and scheduling for pantry deliveries, working with a team to prepare food for delivery to distributions, keep track and reporting inventory in and out under direction, and working as part of team to ensure procurement and appropriate storage and delivery of nutritional foods.
The Food Operation Coordinator engages in any or all the following tasks as assigned by the Program Operations Director.
• Prepares pallets for distribution events as part of the food team.
• Details a purchase schedule with warehouse coordinator and Program Operations Director and updates when orders are received.
• Manages inventory storage at overflow facility, Warehouse and Food Hubs including sorting and organizing pallets and preparing food for delivery for distribution events.
• Directing drivers, volunteers and warehouse workers as assigned by Program Operations Director.
• Works with volunteers to ensure safe and efficient loading/unloading trucks, packing pallets.
• Responsible for safety and organization of inventory in location and communicating needs.
• Works as part of team at distribution events and ensures items and equipment for distributions are organized, in good condition, ready for delivery and returned.
• Assesses and coordinates needs and deliveries to pantries each month.
• Drive and deliver food around Alexandria City to partners or to distribution events as needed or in coordination with other team members.
• Checks volunteers are signed in and working safely in and maintains an exceptionally clean and safe workspace.
• Maintains refrigerator units and ensures they are cleaned regularly.
• Assists with the maintenance of trucks as assigned.
• Maintains warehouse equipment and ensures equipment is in good and safe operating condition.
• Works collaboratively with Warehouse Coordinator, and Food Warehouse Assistants and Food Program staff.

Warehouse Assistant and Delivery Driver
Position Overview:
ALIVE!, an interfaith nonprofit based in Alexandria, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated and motivated Warehouse Assistant and Delivery Driver to join our team. As a Warehouse Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the efficient operation of our food program. Your responsibilities will include picking up, delivering, organizing, receiving, sorting, distributing donated food items, and ensuring that our food program operates smoothly to aid those in need.
Responsibilities:
- Pick up and deliver food donations.
- Ensure proper storage of food.
- Work with management to organize and maintain inventory shelves, ensuring that items are labeled, categorized, and easily accessible.
- Assist in sorting and packing food items according to established guidelines, including perishable and non-perishable goods.
- Collaborate with team members to assemble for distribution to ALIVE! Food Hubs, partner agencies, shelters, and community centers and at distribution events.
- Load and unload delivery trucks, ensuring the safe handling of food items.
- Keep accurate records of inventory levels, incoming donations, and outgoing distributions.
- Maintain a clean and organized warehouses environment, including regular cleaning and sanitization of workspaces and maintenance of equipment.
- Support the implementation of food safety and sanitation procedures to maintain the quality and safety of food products.
- Contribute to maintaining a positive and respectful work atmosphere, fostering a sense of teamwork and collaboration among staff and volunteers.
