Housewares Program

ALIVE! Housewares Program assists Alexandrians in housing transition by providing basic housewares received from generous donors like you. Think about what you needed setting up your first apartment. Those are the same things our recipients need!


Contact Housewares with a description of the items you wish to donate and to schedule a time to drop them off at Fairlington United Methodist Church (3900 King Street).

Alternatively, you may drop off donations at the Sunrise Senior Living of Old Town front desk (400 N. Washington Street) daily from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Twin and Queen-size bedding Towels and washcloths
Bed Pillows Bath mats
Dish towels and cleaning cloths Shower curtains with new or like new liners
Brooms Trash cans (kitchen-size)
Blenders Dish sets – plates & bowls
Coffee makers Medium-size saucepans and skillets
Crock pots Drinking glasses
Lamps Colanders
Microwaves Cutting boards
Mixers Food storage containers
Toasters Kitchen knives
Vacuum cleaners Mixing bowls
Pot holders

Damaged, stained, or torn items
Cupcake tins, bundt cake pans, cookie cutters
Curtains and curtain rods
Decorative pillows
Holiday items
Outdoor grilling tools
Specialty/novelty utensils, appliances, or other items
Stemware – wine, champagne, martini, margarita, etc. glasses
Water bottles or travel mugs

Alexandria residents may recycle small kitchen appliances that are not appropriate for ALIVE! at Alexandria Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Collection (3224 Colvin Street). Open Mondays and Saturdays, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm


To receive assistance, recipients must be referred by the Alexandria Office of Community Services 703-746-5700, an ALIVE! member congregation, or another social service agency.
