Can you help deliver furniture to families in need?
Over the last few months we’ve seen an increased need for basic furniture from newly relocated refugee families and families transitioning out of shelters. Recently, a group of volunteers delivered furniture to a single mother of three kids who only had an air mattresses, a stroller, and a folding chair in the home she recently moved into. We brought her three beds, a floor rug, a table with a set of kitchen chairs, a medium sized couch, and other item to help her begin furnishing her new home.

Social workers refer people in need to ALIVE! and our list of donations that are ready to be picked up is growing each day. The missing part of this program is volunteers who are able to load and unload the ALIVE! truck on Saturday mornings.

If you would like to lend a hand at an upcoming Saturday Furniture delivery just sign up online. We are looking to build teams of 4-7 volunteers each Saturday to load and unload the truck plus one person willing to drive the delivery truck.

Join the Pop-Up Food Distribution at the Ramsay Rec Center- July 13th
You may have seen that because of last week’s air pollution warnings we had to reschedule the monthly Pop-Up Food Distribution at the Ramsay Rec Center. Fortunately a team of volunteers sprang into action and helped hand out groceries on the rescheduled date. This was critical to ensure that this part of our community didn’t miss out on the food assistance they need. Thank you!

We have another Pop-Up scheduled for July 13th and are need five more volunteers to help hand out eggs, chicken, produce, and other grocery items. Please help us spread the word about this monthly volunteer activity and sign up online to reserve your shift. Language skills in high demand: Spanish, Dari, Pashto. Minors ages 15-17 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the volunteer activity.
Thursday, July 13th: 4:00 pm  – 6:00 pm

Sign up to host a Food Drive Collection Box in July
Would you like to host a donation box during Volunteer Alexandria’s city-wide food drive? Our goal is to collect 30,000 pounds of food during the month of July and Volunteer Alexandria is creating a list of locations throughout the city where supporters can drop off donations of food for ALIVE!’s Food Assistance program.
If you’d like Volunteer Alexandria to bring a box and advertise your location as a collection point please complete this survey by June 23rd: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/foodALX

Hunger doesn’t take a Summer break, so food drives like this one help to ensure that ALIVE! has the resources we need to support our Alexandria neighbors.
