Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Congregational Food Drive & Reusable Bag Collection

Disposable plastic bags all too often end up in our waterways and are a danger to wildlife. That’s why ALIVE! is joining the city-wide goal of encouraging the use of reusable bags, and we need your help!

ALIVE! is thankful to the congregations participating in our Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Congregational Food Drive & Reusable Bag Collection! Anyone may bring nonperishable goods and reusable bags to these sites during the collection times listed below from January 14th – 17th. We will gratefully accept the food, reusable bags, or both!

Collection Locations:

Immanuel Church on the Hill
3606 Seminary Rd, Alexandria VA 22304
Friday, January 14 through Sunday, January 16 9am-5pm.
Look for the ALIVE! truck in parking lot facing Seminary Road.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
100 W Luray Ave Alexandria, VA 22301
Saturday, January 15 from 10am-Noon
Contact free drive up available and help to unload cars. Call 202-297-6220 for assistance.

Agudas Achim Congregation

Monday, January 17 from 11am-3pm
Drop off will be in our front parking lot in collection bin.

In Search of a Snowblower

ALIVE! is currently looking for a donation of new or gently used snowblower to help clear program sites during inclement weather conditions this Winter. Please contact info@alive-inc.org or call the ALIVE! office at (703) 837-9300 if you would be interested in donating to this effort.

Alexandria Country Day School food drive

Ms. Lynne Godek will be leading a group of 7th grade volunteers from Alexandria Country Day School for the school’s monthly food drive.

ALIVE! Food Distribution Calendar (JANUARY 2022)

Weekend Food Distribution:
ALIVE! distributes bags of food (groceries, produce, chicken, eggs, bread) at 3 sites one Saturday per month in the parking lot at each site. ALIVE! food distributions are for City of Alexandria residents. No ID required.

  • NVCC Alexandria Campus (parking lot B-1 via 500 Dawes Ave)

Walk-up:

Pop-Up Food Distributions:

ALIVE! provides bags of food to specific neighborhoods and apartment buildings, in collaboration with our community partners, in the parking lot at each pop-up location. Drive-through and walk-up service available depending on site.
