More than 700 volunteers a year ALIVE! (ALexandrians InVolved Ecumenically)
fulfill the mission to put faith and love into action. Of ALIVE!’s seven programs, five are staffed and managed entirely by volunteers.
ALIVE! is Alexandrians helping Alexandrians.
Child Development Center—A nationally accredited, full-day preschool and day
care center serving 46 children and their working poor Alexandrian families throughout the year.
Tuition and fees are based upon the parents' ability to pay—the Center is the only sliding
fee scale, accredited preschool in Alexandria City.

Food—Donated canned and packaged food delivered by volunteers to almost 1,000
needy families who are referred by local social
service agencies and member congregations.

Emergency Monetary Assistance—Financial assistance with rent, utilities, medical needs and
other emergency expenses ranging from work boots
to bus passes, to meet over 2,000 requests
referred by social service agencies and member

Furniture—Donated mattresses, beds, tables, chairs, chests, and other furniture, picked up from donors and
delivered to almost 250 needy Alexandrians by volunteers on weekends.

Last Saturday Food Distribution—A 5-day supply of surplus fresh produce and staple foods
distributed by volunteers once a month to serve over 2,700 families each year referred by social service agencies and ALIVE! congregations.

Housewares—Donated housewares, including pots and pans, towels, sheets, dishes, silverware, and blankets delivered
to over 250 households by volunteers.

ALIVE! House Shelter—Temporary housing for women and families in emergency and transitional situations. ALIVE! House provides
6-12 months of shelter, support, and help developing life skills for up to four homeless families at a time.
